Roots is an artist’s book combining ink drawings and text. It follows David, a lecturer at Bezalel, traveling from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv. On the way, his car breaks down near Shoresh. Suspended between destinations, he leaves the road and climbs the nearby mountain.
At the top, he meets Jacob, a man who identifies as a “New Essene,” living on the margins of contemporary life. Their encounter unfolds through fragments of conversation on faith, withdrawal, language, and the possibility of living otherwise.
The mountain becomes a threshold space: neither urban nor remote, neither past nor present. Through Jacob’s words and the physical act of climbing, David undergoes a subtle internal shift.
He returns to his routine : teaching, speaking, moving through familiar structures—but something has been altered. Not resolved, not declared. A small dislocation, like a root growing beneath the surface.
